Parliament approves Rs. 4.26 bn for SLAF UAV system

Parliament on Thursday (5) approved a supplementary estimate of Rs. 4.261 billion to establish an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system for the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).
Supplementary Estimate No. 08 of 2026 was passed following a debate held from 11.30 a.m. to 5 p.m., authorising the payment of the funds from the Consolidated Fund, any other Government fund or money, or through a government loan.
The proposed UAV system is intended to strengthen the Air Force’s capabilities in response to the changing operational environment, the vulnerability of the Bay of Bengal and surrounding regions to disasters, and emerging threats posed by persistent adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Parliament also passed the Trusts (Amendment) Bill without amendments following its Second Reading debate on Thursday.
The Bill seeks to amend the Trusts Ordinance (Chapter 87) and was presented for its First Reading on October 21 by Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara.
