Police confiscate Rs. 1.1 billion in illegally acquired assets in 11 months

Police say they have taken steps to confiscate 1.1. billion rupees worth illegally acquired assets From 30 October 2025 to now, Police Media Spokesman F.U. Wootler said on Friday.

Police said their illegal asset investigations covered jewellery, vehicles, cash, land, other property and boats.

“We are sending a clear message to criminals who acquire wealth illegally to enjoy a life of luxury: you will not be allowed to use these assets.”

A police official said the number of suspects brought back to Sri Lanka under Interpol Red Notices during 2024, 2025 and 2026 had risen to 43.

A further 38 suspects had been brought back without Red Notices.

Police said another 95 suspects subject to Red Notices remained overseas and that efforts were under way to return them to Sri Lanka as soon as possible.

“Information received through the 1818 has helped us achieve these results. Intensified operations and raids have enabled us to apprehend wanted suspects,” Wootler said.
