Police dispersed a protest march launched by the Inter-University Buddhist Federation at Town Hall by using water cannons.
Contingents of the Special Task Force and Sri Lanka Army were called in to prevent them from proceeding towards the University Grants Commission premises at Ward Place, Colombo 7.
The protests demanded the government increase the intake at Peradeniya and Kelaniaya universities.
