President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed the Secretary to the President, Saman Ekanayake, to initiate a full-scale investigation into the resignation of Mulaitivu Magistrate T. Saravanaraja, who said he was resigning because of death threats.

Mulaitivu Magistrate was inquiring into the complaints relating to the Mullativu Kurundi Vihara dispute.The magistrate had never informed the police or the judicial service commission regarding a threat to his life before.

Therefore, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered an investigation to find out the root cause of this incident immediately.

President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake has discussed the incident with Minister of Justice Wijayadasa Rajapaksa and Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles, and it has been revealed that the magistrate has not made any complaint about the death threats before.

The magistrate had gone overseas on the 24th and forwarded his resignation letter to the Judicial Service Commission on September 23rd.

The President’s Secretary has asked the Attorney General about the allegations made by the Magistrate against the Attorney General, and the Attorney General has responded by saying he had discussed with the Magistrate in his office a request made through the Judicial Service Commission for the Magistrate to appear before the Court of Appeal in a case where he was made a respondent.
