President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says he has no intention of changing the recently made appointments of government official and stressed that the decision was made after careful consideration.

He made this statement after pressure was mounted against these appointments.

“All these appointments were made with the utmost consideration of our country’s sovereignty, national security and implementation of “Saubhagyaye Dekma” policy statement,” a statement by the President’s Media Division (PMD) stated.

It added that the President also emphasized such appointments have been made after careful scrutiny of loyalty to the nation, qualifications and background of these individuals so that policies of the Government can move forward in a successful manner.

“As such, President politely requests everyone not to pressure him or the Government to change these appointments,” the statement stated adding that he is of the view that expressing opinions against these appointments will not only make the appointees unable to carry out their duties and responsibilities properly, but also will weaken the Government’s process by underestimating them in the society.

His new statement comes shortly after he requested the public to refrain from inviting him to private functions.

The PMD said he has ‘given priority to expedite development projects launched by the Government for the benefit of the people and to solve their grievances at the grassroots level in addition to his daily official engagements.

Since he is occupied with fulfilling national responsibilities, the President does not find time to attend ceremonies, prize giving, weddings and social gatherings and a kind request is made to everyone to refrain from inviting the President to such occasions’.
