President Ranil Wickremesinghe has reversed the decision taken by the Constitutional Council to remove the Inspector General of Police, C.D. Wickramaratne, from his post today.
According to government sources, the council has arrived at this decision at a time when the President and the Public Security Minister, who is in charge of police, are out of the country. Sources said that President Wickremesinghe, who is on an official visit to Beijing, has directed the officials concerned to reinstate CD Wickramaratne as the IGP within an hour following the Council’s decision.
