A motion filed by the lawyer of convicted actor-politician Ranjan Ramanayake requesting to reconsider the conviction imposed against him has been rejected by Supreme Court.

In a motion filed, Counsel Dinesh Vidanapathirana had requested the court that the appeal by Ranjan Ramanayake be considered before a fuller bench.

When this motion came up before the Supreme Court, the request made by Ramanayake’s lawyer has been rejected at the very outset.

On January 11, the Supreme Court convicted Ranjan Ramanayake for the offence of contempt of court and sentenced him to a term of four years of rigorous imprisonment.
