Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama has been appointed as the High Commissioner for London with effect from August 1 by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Mr Bogollagama functioned as the Minister of Foreign Affairs under then-President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Initially, he was elected to Parliament from Nikeweratiya as a member of the UNP and was appointed a non-cabinet minister in the Wickremesinghe government from 2001 to 2003. He then crossed over to the UPFA, which was under then-President Chandrika Kumaratunga.
