Rosamund Pike to discuss Lanka’s mine-clearance programme

Internationally acclaimed actress and Mines Advisory Group (MAG) Ambassador Rosamund Pike is scheduled to meet the Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply on Monday (10) to discuss Sri Lanka’s National Mine Action Programme.

Pike is due to pay a courtesy call on the Minister at the Ministry at 9.45 am, following a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

The discussions will focus on progress made under the National Mine Action Programme, coordinated by the National Mine Action Centre (NMAC), and the remaining challenges in achieving a mine-free Sri Lanka.

The meeting is also expected to highlight the need for continued international partnerships and sustainable donor support for humanitarian mine-clearance operations.

Senior officials of the Ministry and NMAC, along with the MAG Country Director and senior officials of MAG Sri Lanka, are expected to attend the meeting.

Pike, who has served as a MAG Ambassador since 2021, is visiting Sri Lanka to observe the country’s progress in humanitarian mine action, meet communities affected by landmines and highlight MAG’s 25 years of involvement in mine-clearance efforts in the country.

Her visit is also aimed at raising international awareness of humanitarian mine action and the need for sustained support to complete mine clearance operations.

The Ministry said the visit would provide an opportunity to reaffirm Sri Lanka’s commitment to completing mine clearance, strengthening international partnerships and supporting the long-term wellbeing of mine and explosive ordnance survivors.
