Shiranthi Rajapaksa to undergo eye examination

Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, is to be taken to the National Eye Hospital in Colombo today for an eye examination, the Department of Prisons said.
Prisons Spokesman Senaka Pallethanna said Rajapaksa was currently in good health and was being held in the medical ward of the women’s section.
Acting Commissioner General of Prisons Prasad Hemantha said several samples, including blood samples, had been taken from Rajapaksa on Thursday for medical tests.
Rajapaksa was arrested on 7 October over allegations relating to the obtaining of Rs. 10 million from a state bank and alleged offences involving misappropriation and corruption under the Public Property Act.
She was subsequently produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded until 13 October.
