Son remanded over businessman father’s death

The son of a leading business Shabbir Abbas Gulamhusein was today ordered to be remanded till September 23 by Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court for allegedly committing the murder of his father in 2017.
The suspect Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhussein(37), the youngest son of the businessman was arrested by CID following a broad investigation. Shabbir Abbas Gulamhusein passed away inside his office premises in Colombo on June 9, 2017.
Subsequently, an investigation was launched into the suspicious death on a complaint received by the Public Complaints Division of the CID in 2018. The body of Gulamhusein, was exhumed in 2019 and performed a fresh post-mortem following court orders.
The post mortem report has suggested the death was due to constriction of neck and it was not a natural death.
The CID investigations have revealed that the suspect has committed the murder with the motive of acquiring father's property.
