Sri Lanka begins 2026 Advanced Level examination

Sri Lanka’s 2026 General Certificate of Education Advanced Level examination began on Monday and will continue until Sept. 5, the Department of Examinations said.

A total of 372,310 candidates are expected to sit the examination at 2,532 centers across the country. They include 264,496 school candidates and 107,814 private candidates.

Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari said candidates should arrive at examination centers one hour before the start of each paper.

Mobile phones, smartwatches, notes, Bluetooth devices and other electronic equipment are strictly prohibited inside examination halls, she said.

Candidates were also urged to follow examination regulations and avoid malpractice. Kumari said results of several candidates had been withheld in previous years because of examination violations.

Tuition classes related to the Advanced Level examination were prohibited from midnight on Aug. 4.

The department said complaints or examination-related issues could be reported to Police Headquarters on 0112421111, the police emergency hotline 119, the Department of Examinations hotline 1911, or the School Examinations Organization and Results Branch on 0112784208 and 0112784537.
