Sri Lanka dengue deaths rise to 68, cases exceed 91,000

The number of dengue deaths reported in Sri Lanka has risen to 68, while total cases have reached 91,059 so far this year, according to the latest data from the National Dengue Control Unit.
The Western Province accounted for 48,244 cases, or 52.98 percent of the national total.
Gampaha District recorded the highest number of cases at 19,406, accounting for 21.31 percent of infections, followed by Colombo with 18,101 cases and Kandy with 6,491.
July recorded the highest monthly caseload so far this year, with 29,971 infections.
Another 5,714 dengue cases have been reported during the first several days of August, the unit said.
Health authorities have identified 119 Medical Officer of Health areas across the country as high-risk dengue zones.
