Sri Lanka to introduce digital monitoring system for passenger buses
August 01, 2026

Sri Lanka will introduce a digital system this year to monitor passenger buses throughout their journeys, the National Transport Commission said.
The system will track buses from the start of a trip until its completion.
It will monitor vehicle performance, passenger safety, the conduct of drivers and conductors, travelling speed and designated stopping points.
The commission said it would take action against buses found violating regulations through the monitoring system.
Penalties could include the imposition of demerit points and the cancellation of operating permits.
