The Sri Lankan Embassy in Nepal has urged Sri Lankans living in or travelling to Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot and Chitwan districts, as well as areas surrounding the Budhi Gandaki River, to take strict safety precautions following a flash flood threat.

The warning was issued after a flash flood triggered by a tributary in Gorkha District raised concerns for communities along the Budhi Gandaki River.

The Embassy advised Sri Lankans to avoid rivers, riverbanks, bridges and low-lying areas and to follow instructions issued by local authorities, security forces and tourist police.

Those in affected areas have been asked to remain in safe locations until conditions return to normal and to avoid unnecessary travel.

The Embassy also urged Sri Lankans to maintain regular contact with their accommodation providers, travel agencies, tour guides and the Embassy.

It warned against attempting to cross flooded roads, streams or rivers under any circumstances.

Those instructed by local authorities to evacuate should immediately move to higher and safer ground, the Embassy said.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Nepal said it remains available around the clock to provide assistance and coordination.

Sri Lankans requiring assistance can contact the Embassy’s 24-hour emergency hotline on +977 985 1048 653 or email slemb.kathmandu@mfa.gov.lk.
