St. Peter’s advance to Under-17 Division I pre-quarter-finals

St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya defeated Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa by 55 runs on Friday (24) to reach the pre-quarter-finals of the Under-17 Division I cricket tournament.

Batting first, St. Peter’s made 230 for nine, with Sashidu Silva scoring 76 off 113 balls and Menura Dissanayake adding a brisk 61 off 49 deliveries.

Sandeepa Dananjaya led the Prince of Wales’ bowling attack, taking five wickets for 53 runs.

Prince of Wales’ slipped to 59 for seven during the run chase before Kavesha Kithmina offered resistance with a fighting 64. However, St. Peter’s dismissed the Cambrians for 175 to complete the victory.

Most of Friday’s other knockout matches ended in comfortable wins.

Royal College, Colombo recorded a 269-run victory over Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College, Kandy, to secure a pre-quarter-final meeting with St. Joseph’s College, Darley Road.

Royal amassed 313 for five after batting first, with Manuth Dasanayake making 76, Savain Gamage 55 and Dushen Udawela 50.

Gagan Gamage took five wickets for 16 runs and Mahiru Kodituwakku claimed four for 18 as Royal dismissed Sri Sumangala for 44 in 18 overs.

St. Aloysius’ College, Galle also advanced after beating Ananda Sastralaya, Kotte by seven wickets.

Ananda Sastralaya were bowled out for 65, with Chenuja Dodangoda’s 27 the only notable contribution.

Hasitha Dasun took four wickets for two runs, while Manindu Pabasara claimed two for seven. Tenul Nethsuka, Chethana Kularathna and Sanuda Imaya took one wicket each.

St. Aloysius’ reached 67 for three in 9.4 overs, with Gimhan Hansaka striking 35 off 25 balls, including seven fours. Kavinya Dabare took all three wickets for nine runs.

St. Aloysius’ will face St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa in the pre-quarter-finals.

Maris Stella College, Negombo beat Royal Central College, Polonnaruwa by five wickets, while Galahitiyawa Central College defeated Taxila Central College by six wickets to secure their places in the next round.
