Sugar scam: Finance ministry submits a report to COPA
March 09, 2021

Finance Ministry on Tuesday handed over a report to the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) on the alleged sugar scam amounting to Rs15,9 billion.
The report stated that the government suffered a massive loss owing to the reduction of the tax levied on sugar imports from Rs 50 to 25 cents.
The opposition alleged that the benefit of the tax reduction has not been passed over to the consumer but several traders had made a huge profit at the expense of the government revenue.
