The 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation plans to introduce a motorcycle-based emergency medical service to provide faster assistance to patients requiring urgent care.

The service aims to reduce response times in densely populated urban areas, where traffic congestion and road obstructions can delay ambulances.

Specially trained medical personnel will travel on motorcycles equipped with essential medicines and medical equipment. They will provide immediate first aid and basic medical support until an ambulance arrives.

The foundation said the programme would initially operate as a pilot project in Colombo and other major urban areas.

It expects to launch the service before the end of this year.
