Trincomalee records Sri Lanka’s highest temperature of 39.9°C

Sri Lanka recorded a maximum temperature of 39.9 degrees Celsius in Trincomalee on Saturday, the Department of Meteorology said.
The Trincomalee meteorological station recorded the highest temperature reported in the country during the day.
Polonnaruwa recorded the second-highest temperature at 38.6 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius were also reported in three other districts. Mullaitivu recorded 37.5 degrees Celsius, Monaragala 37.3 degrees Celsius and Vavuniya 37.1 degrees Celsius.
The figures were based on maximum daytime temperatures reported by the department’s regional monitoring stations.
