Tuition centre owner arrested with crystal methamphetamine in Horana

Police have arrested the owner of a private tuition centre in Horana for allegedly possessing crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice”.
Officers took the 44-year-old suspect into custody during a raid on his home in the Narthanagala area.
Police said they recovered 15 grams and 250 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine, along with a mobile phone, a SIM card believed to have been used in drug trafficking and an electronic weighing scale.
The suspect allegedly attempted to flee when officers arrived but was arrested after a brief pursuit.
Preliminary investigations found that he is the son of a prominent businessman in the Horana area and has previously faced several drug-related charges, police said.
Investigators are examining whether the suspect had links to organised drug trafficking networks, operated a wider distribution network and supplied narcotics to students attending his tuition classes.
