Wimal hints of a split if political novices continue to harass him

Leaders of twelve small parties including Wimal Weerawansa met for a discussion on the effects of his statement that Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be made the leader of the SLPP.
He made this statement to a Sunday Sinhala newspaper effectively sending ripples through the hierarchy of the SLPP.
Mahinda Rajapaksa loyalist gathered to fire salvos at Weerawansa that snowballed the effect of the statement.
First it was General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam and subsequently many others joined the bandwagon.
Yesterday’s meeting at Weerawansa’s residence saw a new development where he said that he would either withdraw the statement or tender an apology.
He said that if the political novices continue to harass him he would also be compelled to take decision hinting that there could be split in the ranks of the SLPP.
Others however ruled out this said that they should meet President and the Prime minister to iron out the differences caused by it .Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Udaya Gammanpila also participated in this discussion
