Low-pressure area moves west but rain to continue across Sri Lanka

The low-pressure area near Sri Lanka is moving westwards away from the island, but its influence is expected to continue on Friday, the Department of Meteorology said.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura and Galle districts.
Showers or thundershowers are also expected in other parts of the island after 1 p.m.
The department said some areas could receive fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm.
The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions may also develop in some parts of the Central and Uva provinces during the early morning, the department said.
