Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, who became an active participant in the “GotaGoGama” protest, was today released on bail after being surrendered before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Fr. Jeewantha Peiris was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs.500,000 by Magistrate Thilina Gamage in connection with two cases filed against him by Fort Police and Slave Island Police.
Fr. Jeewantha Peiris is to surrender before Court today
The Fort Police and Slave Island Police had filed two separate B reports against Fr. Jeewantha Peiris over two incidents relating to the Galle Face protests.
Fr. Jeewantha Peiris has also filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order preventing police and tri-forces from arresting him regarding incidents relating to the Galle Face protest.
President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne with counsel Udara Muhandiramge appeared for Fr. Jeewantha Peiris.

Attorney-at-law Udara Muhandiramge appearing on behalf of Fr. Jeewantha Peiris has already filed two motions before Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court in respect of two cases. Both Fort Police and Slave Island Police have filed two separate B reports against Fr. Jeewantha Peiris over two incidents relating to the Galle Face protests.
