Adarsha Karandana, who held a media briefing along with former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra against Prof. Ashu Marasinghe, has filed an anticipatory bail application in court to pre-empt the possibility of her arrest by the CID relating to a complaint made by Prof. Marasinghe.
A video recording of Prof. Ashu Marasinghe allegedly showing him sexually abusing a dog has gone viral after it was released to the media by Adarsha Karandana and SJB former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra.
Adarsha Karandana informed the court in her anticipatory bail application that the CID is attempting to arrest her in connection with a complaint lodged by Ashu Marasinghe alleging that statements made to the media were completely false and that a doctored video clipping was used for this purpose.
When the application came up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, the court issued notices to the CID Director and OIC of Computer Crimes Division to appear in court on January 10.
The petitioner, Adarsha Karandana, moved the court that an order be issued to the CID directing them to release her on anticipatory bail if she was arrested over the alleged charges.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ashu Marasinghe, former advisor to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, had sent a letter of demand claiming Rs. 500 million and one billion rupees as damages from Hirunika Premachandra and Adarsha Karandana, respectively, for allegedly making a defamatory statement regarding him during a press conference held on December 23.
