Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s (CPC) Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (JSS) Secretary Ananda Palitha was today ordered to be released from a case filed against him for making a statement about fuel shortages.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe made this order following the Attorney General’s advice not to proceed with the case owing to insufficient evidence against the trade union activist.
On or around August 2021, Ananda Palitha told the media that the stock of diesel in hand would suffice only for 11 days. In contrast, petrol would be sufficient for 10 days.
According to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, his statement was false, and the public would be incited by it.
