The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has requested Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickremaratne to immediately conduct a fully-fledged investigation into the spate of shooting incidents and the dead bodies found on Galle Face beach.

The BASL has reportedly drawn the attention of the IGP regarding the recent shooting incidents reported from various parts of the country over several days resulting in the deaths of several individuals.

The BASL has also drawn the attention of the IGP regarding the reports in the media of dead bodies being washed ashore on parts of the coastline- especially in the vicinity of Gate Face.

BASL said the dead bodies on the shore had instilled fear in a section of the populace and requested prompt responses from the authorities regarding these incidents.

The BASL has emphasised to the IGP the necessity of urgently investigating these two matters to ensure public confidence in respect of law enforcement and to ensure that Sri Lanka’s image is not adversely affected.
