Bribery Commission to file fresh cases in place of the court cases already withdrawn due to procedural errors

The commission to Investigate Bribery and Corruption will file new cases in place of the bribery cases already withdrawn.

Earlier, the cases had been withdrawn owing to procedural errors. A press release issued by the  Commission said.

The Bribery Commission said it had to withdraw several cases in line with the Anoma Polwatte Supreme Court judgment. It specified that three commissioners of the Bribery Commission ought to give their written sanction to file action.

The Secretary to the Bribery Commission, Apsara Caldera, said these cases were withdrawn, reserving the commission’s rights to file fresh indictments after rectifying the procedural errors.

The Bribery Commission further said moves are underway to file 28 cases anew against politicians, customs officers, policemen, and other state sector employees after rectifying the procedural errors.
