Case filed against the detention of Wasantha Mudalige fixed for November 10 by the Supreme Court.

The Fundamental Rights petitions filed challenging the legality of the detention order issued against Convener of Inter-University Students' Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige and two others under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) were today fixed for November 10 by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court today permitted the petitioners to amend the petitions (captions) by adding more respondents.

President's Counsel Upul Jayasuriya, appearing for the petitioners, sought the court's permission to amend the captions, adding more respondents whose names have been transpired from the objections filed by the Attorney General.

The Supreme Court three-judge bench comprising Justices S. Thurairaja, Shiran Goonaratne and Mahinda Samayawardena fixed the petitions for support on November 10.

Ven. Weweva Sridhamma Thera and Hashan Jeewantha Gunathilake, Sri Jayawardhanapura University undergraduates, have also filed petitions challenging their detention under PTA.

The petitioners are seeking a declaration that the arrest and detention of Mudalige was unlawful.

The petitioners are challenging the legality of their arrest and detention under Detention Orders issued by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Minister of Defence.

The petitioners are further seeking an interim order to produce the detainees before a

in the Magistrate's Court in terms of the law.

The petitioners have named IGP Chandana Wickremaratne, CID Director Kavinda Piyasekera, Director of TID Prasanna Alwis, Attorney General, and several others as respondents.
