The Court of Appeal issues a writ of mandamus and directs CEB to appoint Dr D.C.R Abeysekaras as the General Manager

The Court of Appeal today issued a writ of Mandamus directing the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to appoint Eng. Dr. D.C.R. Abeysekara as the General Manager of the CEB with effect from January 13, 2022.

The Court of Appeal held that petitioner Dr.D.C.R. Abeysekara is entitled to be appointed as the General Manager of the CEB upon the retirement of Eng. Ranatunga, who was the previous General Manager, upon reaching the age of 60 years.

The petitioner had sought an order in the nature of a writ of certiorari quashing the decision of the CEB authorities to extend the term of service of Eng. Ranatunga as the General Manager of CEB beyond the age of 60 years.

The Court of Appeal bench comprised Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.

Attorney-at-law Shantha Jayawardena and Hiranya Damunupola appeared for the petitioner. Sanjeewa Jayawardena, PC, with Lakmini Warushavithana, appeared for Eng. M. R. Ranatunga. Additional Solicitor General Vikum de Abrew appeared for the Attorney General.
