Actress Damitha Abeyratne, who was an active participant in the "GotaGoGama" protest, was today ordered to be released on bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate.
Taking into consideration a motion application filed on behalf of Damitha Abeyratne,
Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered to release her on two sureties of Rs.500,000 each.
On September 8, the Court ordered to remand Damitha Abeyratne till September 14 for allegedly obstructing the duties of police officers and forcibly entering the Presidential Secretariat and damaging its property during a protest.
In a motion before the court, defence counsel argued that the suspect had not committed these alleged offences while she was out on bail over another similar incident.
She was arrested by Colombo North Divisional Crime Detective Bureau (DCDB) for allegedly obstructing the duties of police officers and forcibly entering the Presidential Secretariat and damaging its property during a protest.
Damitha Abeyratne was represented by a group of lawyers including President's Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne, Counsel Thejitha Koralage, Udara Muhandiramge, Thilina Punchihewa, and Eranda Yakandawala.
