Emeritus Professor Priyani Soysa passed away at the age of 97
She was a professor of paediatrics at the University of Colombo and rendered a great service to the country.
She is remembered for creating many welfare opportunities for mothers to stay with their children at children’s wards, working to provide maternity leave for mothers up to three months, formulating the national policy on breastfeeding, and actively working on the polio eradication programme as well as children’s nutrition.
Prof. Priyani Soysa’s funeral will take place today at the Borella Cemetary.
