A letter from Defence Secretary Kamal Guneratne to the Inspector General of Police warning of a bomb attack on the 5th or 6th of this month was tabled in parliament today by MP Nalin Bandara.
The letter which had been sent by Guneratne on the 27th of June had said that a foreign intelligence service is planning the bomb attack or an act of a similar nature in the north -east or the south of the country and that it will be blamed on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
Employees of foreign organisations and VIPs in Jaffna have already been asked not to attend public events on these days.
The letter had also said that the houses of pradeshiya sabha members and politicians are at risk of attack.
Bandara asked the Speaker to intervene in the matter immediately because it is a threat to national security.
He said a similar letter had been sent before the Easter Sunday attacks and asked whether this is an attempt to intimidate or a real situation.
