A leading activist of the Galle Face protest site, Dhaniz Ali, who was held in remand custody for allegedly entering Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and causing damage to public property, was today ordered to be released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe ordered the release of the suspect on a cash bail of Rs.25,000 with two sureties of Rs.500,000. The Chief Magistrate observed that there were no sufficient materials before the Court to remand the suspect under the Public Property Act.
Ali was accused of entering the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and attempting to disrupt television broadcasts on July 13. He was arrested by the CID while trying to leave for Dubai on a flight from the Bandaranaike International Airport on July 26.
