Dr Shafi Shihabdeen will donate the salary arrears he received to upgrade six schools and purchase essential medicines for critical patients. The arrears he received amount to Rupees 2.67 million. Dr Shafi Shihabdeen was at the centre of the controversy surrounding the alleged sterilisation of female patients and had filed a writ petition in the Court of Appeal seeking an order directing authorities to pay the salary due and payable to him, including back wages.   On June 7, the Ministry of Health gave an undertaking before the Court of Appeal to pay the salary and allowances payable to Dr Shafi Shihabdeen before July 10.
