A foreign fishing vessel with a large quantity of heroin was taken into custody by a Sri Lankan Navy patrol in the mid seas off the Southern coast.

Seven crew members on board have also been arrested.

Out of the seven crew members, five have been identified as Pakistanis. The quantity of heroin recovered is around 300 kgs.

Naval sources said they found some arms along with the narcotics.

Naval sources said following information received by the Sri Lanka Police, the Sri Lanka Navy launched a special operation in the past few days to capture foreign fishing vessels carrying large quantities of heroin and other narcotics.

 

The fishing vessel and the crew members were brought to the Port of Colombo and handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
