Fort magistrate orders the private TV channel to hand over video footage containing the contemptuous remarks made by Sanath Nishantha to the CID.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate today issued an order directing a private television channel that the video footage containing the alleged contemptuous statement made by Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Puttalam District parliamentarian Sanath Nishantha be handed over to the CID for further investigations.

Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage made this order pursuant to a request made by CID through a motion.

On August 24, Colombo Fort Magistrate issued an order directing the CID to conduct an investigation into a contemptuous statement alleged to have been made by Parliamentarian Sanath Nishantha during a press conference held at the SLPP party headquarters.

In addition to the magisterial inquiry, two separate applications have been filed so far before the Court of Appeal seeking an order to punish Sanath Nishantha for committing the offence of Contempt of Court.
