Fr. Jeevantha Peiris surrenders to Court: Released on Bail

The Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, an active participant in the "GotaGoGama" protest, was released on bail after being surrendered before the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court in connection with the third case filed against him.
The Rev. Peiris was released on bail when a case filed by the Crime Detection Bureau of the Modera Police came up for hearing.
Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered his release on surety bail in a sum of Rs 500,000.
The police alleged that Fr. Jeewantha Peiris had forcibly entered the Presidential Secretariat and participated in a press conference.
The Fort Police and Slave Island Police had also filed two separate B reports against Fr. Jeewantha Peiris over two incidents relating to the Galle Face protests.
Fr. Jeewantha Peiris has also filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order preventing police and tri-forces from arresting him regarding the Galle Face protest incidents.
President's Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne with counsel Udara Muhandiramge appeared for Fr. Jeewantha Peiris.
