A group of Lawyers urge AG to recommend travel restrictions against several politicians, including former Ministers
April 26, 2022

A group of lawyers today urged the Attorney General to obtain travel bans against several politicians, including former Ministers who are facing charges of fraud and corruption.
The lawyers who met Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam at his office in Hulftsdorp had informed that the travel bans imposed on several former Ministers, including members of the Rajapaksa family, are no longer in force. They have pointed out that travel restrictions have been relaxed despite many cases against them still pending in High Courts. Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala told news media that they have information that these politicians are planning to go overseas, inflicting adverse effects on the country’s criminal justice system. He said it would be a difficult task to seize the funds misappropriated by these politicians if they were allowed to flee the country.RELATED NEWS
