The High Court temporarily removes Patali's travel ban.

The passport of Colombo District Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka, which was impounded by the court following an indictment filed by the Attorney General over the Rajagiriya motor accident case, was today permitted to travel abroad by the Colombo High Court. President’s Counsel Sarath Jayamanne, appearing for MP Ranawaka, sought an order allowing his client to travel abroad until the next hearing date. The Attorney General did not raise any objections to the request. High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte issued an order directing the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration to suspend the travel ban imposed on Champika Ranawaka until March 17 next year. The Supreme Court has already issued an interim order suspending Colombo High Court trial proceedings against Patali Champika Ranawaka in connection with the Rajagiriya motor accident case. This case, comprising 16 charges, was filed against MP Patali Champika, his driver Thusith Dilum Kumara and former officer in Charge (OIC) of the Welikada Police Station Sudath Asmadala on charges of fabricating false evidence, conspiracy to fabricate evidence and submitting false reports to the Court. Dileepa Peiris, Senior Deputy Solicitor General, appeared for the Attorney General.
