The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is keeping a close eye on the political and economic developments in Sri Lanka as growing public unrest is continuing unabated.

“IMF staff is looking forward to program discussions with the authorities, including during the visit of the newly appointed Finance Minister to Washington later this month,” IMF Sri Lanka mission chief Masahiro Nozaki has reportedly told Reuters news agency in an emailed statement.

It is not clear who would represent Sri Lanka at the IMF meeting in Washington since the newly appointed Finance Minister Ali Sabri resigned within twenty-four hours of his appointment.
