A lawyer has lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) against Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickremaratne for declaring a police curfew within seven police divisions on Thursday (08).
In his complaint, Attorney-at-law Udara Muhandiramge is seeking a declaration that IGP Wickremaratne has violated his fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 12(1), 14(1), a, b, c, g and h of the constitution by declaring a police curfew contrary to the law.
The complaint states that neither the Police Ordinance nor any other statutory law has provisions to impose a police curfew.
