Longer power cuts with Norochcholai shut down
June 16, 2022

The Ceylon Electricity Board will shut down the Norochcholai power plant from 18th June for a scheduled maintenance of 75 days.
A total of 270 MW will be lost to the national grid from this outage which will lead to longer daily power cuts of between three hours and twenty minutes to three and a half hours. The duration of the power cut currently is two hours. Joint Front representative Isuru Kasthurirathne said these durations too will be influenced by the availability of water in the reservoirs and diesel and heavy fuel. The adhoc operations of the Sapugaskanda oil refinery has affected the availability of heavy fuel. The maintenance work on Norochcholai, which has been overdue for months, will be carried out to Unit 2 of the plant which has two other units.RELATED NEWS
