All Cabinet ministers except for the Prime Minister have tendered their resignations.
A new Cabinet is likely to swear in this morning but may take some time to decide on the portfolios.
Wimal Weerawansa, the ousted Minister, met with the President yesterday and suggested setting up an all-party interim government.
However, the main opposition Samagi Jana Balwegaya said they would not be a party to any government.
Meanwhile, State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara(SLFP) also tendered his resignation from his state ministerial portfolio.
The SLFP is likely to withdraw its support from the government if the President fails to set up a caretaker government until the Parliamentary general elections are held to elect a new Parliament.
