Attorney-at-Law Nuwan Bopage, an active participant in the “Gota Go Gama” protest, was today ordered to be released on bail after being surrendered before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

Nuwan Bopage was named as the 59th suspect in a case filed before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court for forcibly entering the Presidential Secretariat and damaging its properties during a protest.

Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered to release Bopage on a surety bail of Rs. 500,000 and ordered him to provide a statement to the police on November 19. Meanwhile, the Magistrate rejected a request made by police to impose travel restrictions on the suspect and observed that police should not seek court orders for the purpose of harassing people without reasonable grounds.

Nuwan Bopage was represented by a group of lawyers headed by Saliya Pieris PC.

Actress Damitha Abeyratne, Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, and 57 other Aragalaya activists were named as suspects in this case.
