Social media activist Pathum Kerner arrested in connection with the recent violent incidents during a protest at the Polduwa Junction, was ordered to be remanded till August 4 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Police covered Pathum Kerner’s face with a white cloth to avoid exposure to the public before an identification parade.

Pathum Kerner will be in the Court for an identification parade on the next hearing date.

Producing the suspect before Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala, the Colombo Crimes Division, alleged that the suspect is in custody for committing offences under Public Property Act during a violent protest held near Polduwa junction on July 13.

Police further submitted to the Court that a T-56 weapon belonging to the Army had been stolen during this protest.

President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne appearing fo defence denied his client’s involvement in the weapon theft and said his client is a medical practitioner who served in Sri Lanka Army.

Rienzie Arseculeratne PC with counsel Chamindri Arseculeratne, Udara Muhandiramge and Thilina Punchihewa appeared for the suspect.
