Police inform the BASL of imminent arrests

Senior police officers have informed the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) that the Police will make a number of arrests in connection with the attacks on the protestors opposite Temple Trees and at Galle Face within the next couple of days. In a statement, the BASL announced that the BASL President and Deputy President had met the IGP and senior officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Police Headquarters at the IGP's invitation on May 16. During this meeting, BASL President Saliya Pieris has pointed out to the IGP and the senior officers of the CID the importance of maintaining public confidence in the investigations by taking prompt and effective action on the matters. The BASL further announced that over the last few days, the BASL has made representations to the Attorney General and the IGP on the attacks on the protestors and on the violence that occurred at the Galle Face.
