Prime Minister declares a state of Emergency.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew in the Western Province,
The Prime Minister has also ordered the arrest of those engaging in illegal acts and taking into custody lorries or vehicles in which they travel. Meanwhile, Lawyer Hejaaz Hisbullah tweeted that Ranil Wickremesinghe is not the acting President yet. Therefore the declaration of emergency is illegal. Under Article 40 (C ) of the constitution, the PM Becomes the acting President only after the office of the President falls vacant.
However, many websites describe Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Acting President and the Prime Minister.
Security forces, in the meantime, tear-gassed the protestors who were trying to storm the Prime Minister's office at Flower Road
