PUCSL goes before the Supreme Court seeking an order to supply fuel to the CEB without interruption

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) today filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order directing the Minister of Energy to continue to supply fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) without interruption.
The PUCSL is further seeking an order directing the Finance Minister and Treasury Secretary to immediately allocate USD 200 million for the purchase of fuel to generate electricity.
The PUCSL states that due to the disruption of electricity supply, it has received and continues to receive numerous complaints from the public informing how such interruptions are affecting the wellbeing of the citizens.
The petitioner is further seeking an interim order directing the Finance Minister, Treasury Secretary and Central Bank Governor to take all steps forthwith to ensure availability of sufficient financing to purchase fuel for the generation of electricity.
