SDIG Deshabandu had given a call to the Fort OIC to hand over the money to the Minister.

Investigations have revealed that Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon had informed the Fort Police OIC through a phone call to handing over the sum of Rs. 17.85 Million recovered from President's House to Public Security Minister Tiran Alles.

The Special Investigation Unit informed the Fort Magistrate court today.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage had earlier issued an order directing the IGP to conduct a comprehensive investigation regarding the failure of Fort the Police to deposit the recovered money under judicial custody.

Meanwhile, Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today issued an order directing the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and two mobile phone service providers to provide details relating to the alleged telephone conversation between Senior DIG Tennakoon and Fort Police OIC.

Director of Special Investigation Unit SSP Wickramasinghe filed a detailed report about the investigation relating to money found at the President's House.

SSP Wickramasinghe further said the SIU is to submit a report to the IGP recommending disciplinary action against police officers involved in irregularities.

On July 29, Colombo Fort Magistrate observed that there is reasonable doubt regarding the conduct of the Fort Police OIC for his failure to hand over the recovered money to judicial custody after a lapse of three weeks.

However, on July 27, the Fort Police handed over the recovered money to the court custody following a court order.
