Rehabilitation Bureau bill gazetted
October 07, 2022

The government is planning to introduce a Bureau of Rehabilitation to rehab ex-combatants, members of violent extremist groups, and any other group of people who request treatment and rehabilitation or are required by law to be provided with treatment and rehabilitation; However, the bill does not spell out how the rehabilitation process begins or who is authorised to commit any person to rehabilitation.
The absence of the judicial component in the bill has caused a furore among the political parties and other human rights groups who had resolved to challenge the provision of the bill before the Supreme Court.
The Bill is appended below for the perusal of the readers.
